Classic Theatre Cumbria is delighted to invite you to its production of Robert Bolt's famous play 'A Man For All Seasons' to be performed for three nights in the Tithe Barn in West Walls on Wednesday 29, Thursday 30 & Friday 31 March, 2023 in aid of St Cuthbert's Church, the City & Civic Church which stands on the oldest worshipping site in the City of Carlisle. There has been worship on this site for at least 1700 years and stands on the original Roman Road, now known as Blackfriars Street.
John Davies is directing and also playing the part of Sir Thomas More. John says, "Having played this part several times, I am following the playwright's own instruction that it should not be 'an exact reproduction of the elaborate style of the period.'" Characters will wear black with plain colours added to show status: Red for the Cardinal, Yellow for the King, Green for the Duke, and so on. A modern dress production which will allow the arguments at the heart of this moving story to breathe and develop with clarity. The play revolves around More's conflict with Henry VIII over the latter's proposed divorce from Catherine of Aragon; a play about integrity that engages our attention from page one.
